A tree isn’t the only thing that grows in Brooklyn. This summer Brooklyn can add yet another notch to its belt. The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing will host the brother-sister fencing champs, Keeth and Erinn Smart. As life-long Brooklyn natives, the duo honed their fencing skills right here in NYC, attending the New York Fencing School.
These jousting siblings are no strangers to the Olympics; both have competed in past Olympic Games. Sister, Erinn, was on the 2004 Olympic team and brother Keeth competed in both the 2000 and 2004 games. In 2003, Keeth also became the first U.S. Fencer ever to be ranked No. 1 in the World after winning the silver medal at the World Cup competition in Athens, Greece.
If you didn’t make this year’s Olympic Team, you can still catch the 2008 games from August 8-24. If you would like to learn more about the art of fencing, make your way over to your local library. EN GUARDE…
