Being multi-lingual is cool. It gives you the ability to communicate with more people all over the world – and even in this borough. That’s because 40% of Brooklynites speak a language other than English at home. So if you’re heading to Brighton Beach to catch some rays, knowing Russian might be helpful. Or if you’re grabbing a pierogi you’d be best served by getting a recommendation in Polish from the folks in Greenpoint.

BPL offers language circles, software, databases and books to help you learn a new language. Or if you just want to borrow a book in your native tongue, or learn about other cultures, you can read books in over 30 languages, including over 600 donated by the Chinese Ambassador this week.

Learning new languages for free? Now you’re talking.
