Get those gams warmed up and jitterbug down to BPL’s Dweck Center on Thursday, October 2 for a swinging show by the Blue Vipers of Brooklyn. As part of BPL’s Brooklyn Sings, Brooklyn Swings music series, the Blue Viper’s play an energetic blend of jazz, swing and blues, as well as original songs. Tickets are cheap ($10 for adults; $7 for students and seniors), so if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the state of the economy, enjoy a show that harkens back to the Great Depression without entering your own.
I also recommend catching the band at their weekly gig at Chez Oskar in Fort Greene, where the combination of jazz and French cuisine makes you feel as if you’ve been whisked back to the Roaring Twenties in Gay París or a Brooklyn speakeasy.
The Brooklyn Swings, Brooklyn Sings series is ongoing at the Library, with Brazilian influences, jazz vocals, French jazz and more—don’t miss it!
