A grey, drizzly day didn’t deter the enthusiasm at the opening ceremony of the Open Book Café by Mambo on Central Library’s outdoor plaza on Wednesday.
A collaboration between BPL and Spencer Rothschild (owner of Barrio, Playa and Cabana Bar) and his business partner, chef Alex Garcia (co-owner of Patria and author of In a Cuban Kitchen), the café offers items such as baked goods and granola for breakfast; sandwiches, tacos and salads for lunch and dinner; and beverages and snacks. A plan is underway to offer beer and wine to enjoy on warm summer evenings!
Beginning June 8 with Chavella’s Restaurant in Prospect Heights, Open Book Café will serve food from local restaurants every other week, offering the chance to sample bites from around the borough.
So this summer when you come to Central Library, bring your library card and an appetite! Open Book Café is open seven days a week, rain or shine.
