Wimpy, Wicked & Witty

Everyone knows books are made into movies all the time, but what about books that are turned into killer plant tours? Or books that get you...

Free ice cream! That’s right, kids, celebrate the upcoming release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days with free ice cream on Central Library’s Plaza next Wednesday, August 26, from 11 AM to 1 PM. Look for the Wimpy Kid ice cream truck, grab a snack and a bookmark, and enter a drawing for some cool prizes.

I wasn’t kidding about the killer plants.

If you don’t believe me, check out Amy Stewart’s Wicked Plants: The Weed That Killed Lincoln’s Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities, and then head over to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to check out the dark side of plant life. Through September 6, get up close with a carnivorous plant, and meet some of the other wicked species from Stewart’s book.

Oh yeah, the movies.

If you’ve read Frank W. Abagnale’s Catch Me If You Can: The Amazing True Story of the Most Extraordinary Liar in the History of Fun and Profit, you know Hollywood couldn’t wait to turn it into a movie. And it’s a good thing they did, because you can see it for free on Thursday night, August 20, under the stars, at Brooklyn Bridge Park. It’s part of their Stolen Summer film series, featuring classic capers, thrillers and heists.

See you there!
