March is Women’s History Month. At Central Library’s Dweck Center we’re celebrating all month long with performances and talks by ladies who sing and write; one of them even flies! Here is just some of what you’ll find this month:
Take flight with Betty Bronson for a screening of the original film version of Peter Pan during our Silent Film Series on March 7 at 1:30 PM.
Get some music appreciation! For something classical, check out Trio Cavatina, winner of the 2009 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition, which performs March 14 at 4 PM. If you like some rock added to your chamber music, hear Missy Mazzoli and her ensemble Victoire on March 21 at 4 PM.
Hit the books! For a talk that is sure to be adventurous, meet Jessica DuLong, a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed merchant marine officer and one of the world’s only female fireboat engineers. She will read from her book My River Chronicles: Rediscovering America on the Hudson on March 18 at 7 PM. Or hear some rhymes by Staceyann Chin, co-writer of Broadway’s Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam, on March 25 at 4 PM.

If spending a quiet night at home reading is your thing, check out the books we recommend about women that have made a difference, both past and present.
