Whether you prefer contemplative pastimes or kicking your feet to a big band sound, BPL has the goods to keep your summer lively.
June kicks off the fun with a grand start: today is the start of Summer Reading, with a day-long “ block party” celebration at Central Library culminating in a discussion with celebrated photographer, author (The Ghosts of Harlem), music producer—and former CIA agent—Hank O'Neal at the Dweck Center.
Beginning Saturday at 5 PM, we’re hosting a 24-hour read-in on the Plaza at Central Library in support of NYC’s public libraries! Volunteer readers include published authors and local electeds along with other fellow Brooklynites who care deeply about the future of our libraries in light of devastating budget cuts.
World Wide Knit in Public Day starts at 1 PM on Sunday on the Plaza; if you’re a knitter (or want to learn how to be one), join the knit-off and enjoy other related activities while you listen contentedly to the read-in.
On Thursday, June 17, our summer-long Plaza Swing Series gets off to a rousing start with dance lessons followed by a live swing concert by Paul Shapiro's Ribs and Brisket Revue.
