Didn’t you know? Summer is for sporting. In some circles, it is also a prime time for throwing back a few cold ones. This year, delight in the best of both here at Central Library: Brooklynites are invited to bring their laptops, recline on the Plaza and stream athletic feats and glory while enjoying a beer or glass of wine, courtesy of Open Book Café by MAMBO. Wireless, outdoor internet connections are free and open to the public 24 hours every day, so visitors can digitally tune in to some of the summer’s biggest sporting spectacles—the Wimbledon and US Open tennis championships, FIFA World Cup, Tour de France and British Open—even after the library has closed. In between plays, enjoy your snacks and spirits while admiring Grand Army Plaza’s Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Arch, framing the peaks of a distant Manhattan skyline. It’s summertime, at the library, and it’s free: let the cheering commence.
Please note that all Brooklyn Public Library locations will be closed this Sunday and Monday, July 4 & 5, in observance of Independence Day.
